Pottery Wheel

It has now come to the middle of the second year in art and design and we finally have a bit of free time on our hands to use the pottery wheel. All year round we have all wanted that one chance to get on it and feel like we are part of the romantic scene in the movie Ghost.
When my turn arrived the technique of the wheel came as a surprise to me as it was a lot harder than what I had imagined. I expected the process to be layed back but instead it was a process of strength and handi-coordination. I needed to be in full control of the clay and to move my thumbs and fingers around in order to get a nice pot shape. This was unsuccessful for me as I made what my tutor likes to call "doughnut's". That is when you lose control over the clay and it peels apart leaving you with a doughnut shaped piece of clay.  Despise this, It was the most fun I have ever felt in a ceramic lesson.
