My first design in sketchbook.
Watercolour
By choosing an animal's head I am aiming to show the public that both animal and human are equal and I wanted to show that through a painting and get my point across.
There are times when animal's such as horses are treated badly. For instance, recently horse meat has become a food. Unlike other farm animal's such as cows and sheep, horses are animals that are seen more like pets. Us humans grow a friendship with these and I don't stand by their idea of eating their meat.
The horse mask is a representation of putting on a mask and instantly turning into the impossible.
Oil
When it came to my final piece I made some intense changes in order for my work to look more dark themed.
The painting underneath represents signs of insecurity. To grasp the concept of an ugly face I used a colour that matches makes me feel that ugly feeling, a feeling of discontent. I chose to paint the melting face simply to show that the person within it feels insecure and unattractive in themselves and just wants their appearance to be swiped away and left for good. I chose to compose the head on a field with a landscape background because landscapes make me think of freedom. Freedom is what this person is feeling when their face has been taken away as they are uncomfortable with it. Salvador Dali also inspired me for the landscape backgrounds as a lot of his work are based in a landscape setting. I painted this on hard wood using acrylics with a touch of oil.
